A prequel story to Sew, It's a Quest, written by my friend Kendra Ardnek.

The Prior Quest

Kendra E. Ardnek

TYPE/GENRE: Fairy tale/fantasy
SERIES: Bookania Short Stories
LENGTH: 10 pages
RATING: 10 out of 10 stars
READ ALOUD:    5 out of 5 stars

When a miller turned soldier saves his life, Push au Kim vows to repay him.  Years later, Push goes searching for the miller, only to discover he has died.  Undaunted, Push decides to repay the debt by helping the miller's sons.  The two older sons are unimpressed.  How can Push help them?  But the youngest son, known simply as Boy, agrees to follow Push's instructions.  Thus he begins a rather bewildering adventure.  Where and how will it end?

This new take on an old fairy tale kept me chuckling.  Push is one of my favorite minor characters from Sew, It's a Quest and Do You Take This Quest? and I enjoyed reading his backstory.

I recommend this book for all ages.  I read it aloud to my little siblings and they laughed heartily through it.  (They love the world of Bookania.)

My favorite quotes:
"We go next country.  You no worry, it adventure and all in plan." Push au Kim

"No worry, no worry.  All part of plan, dear master." Push au Kim

"Ah, the trials of being the beautiful daughter of a king." Princess Corliss

And now for an announcement:

Kendra is hosting a birthday party for Robert and Robin tomorrow!!!!!  Be sure to stop by her blog Knitted By God's Plan and join in the festivities.  Click on the picture to find out more about the party.

  1. Push holds a special spot in my heart, which is why his backstory is the first to be told. He was also the first non-Sleeping Beauty Character that decided to pop into the book, plotting-wise.

  2. An absolutely hilarious story.
